Postal Bar Code Software

I've avoided putting up Postnet (used by the United States Postal Service) bar code software because most word processors have the ability to print Postnet bar code. For example, you can get information about printing postnet bar code using Word from the Microsoft site. Search using the terms "postnet" or "postal barcodes". If you want the complete specifications, you can download it in Adobe Acrobat form from the United States Postal Service site (the whole file is 2M). You can also look at other barcode specifications like Delivery Confirmation, Express mail, and other USPS bar coded forms like Insurance, Certified and Registered mail. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is free from Adobe's site. If you have a copy of the December 8, 1992 issue of PC Magazine, You'll find a good description of Postnet on page 406. Here is a few shareware products that will help you print PostNet bar code.

  • Infothek Lite v1.2 is an intuitive and versatile mailing label maker. The product can print USPS Postnet and Code 39. The product has an easy to use and powerful query system for searching, filtering and sorting the address data. Reads Microsoft Access, FoxPro and dBase databases. Win3x, Win95, NT compatible and requires vbrun300.dll. Registration is $29. For more information contact Joseph Buchmann.

  • postnet.mdb is a set of Access functions that can be used to generate Postnet barcodes. The functions take a ZIP or ZIP+9 and remove extraneous characters (such as the '-' that may be in a ZIP+9, e.g., 12345-6789). A checksum is computed and added to the string, and the framing bar characters are added to the beginning and the end. Two of the functions can also add the delivery point code. The delivery point code is computed from the street address, and will allow the Postal Service's equipment to sort the letter directly into carrier walk sequence for most addresses. The resulting string can be printed using a Postnet font. For more information visit the Kevin Dybdal.

  • uspsbc.exe (self extracting file) is a Postnet True Type Font for Windows in a 12 pt Size which can be used to print US Postal Bar Codes. It can be used from within Data Base Programs, Spread Sheets, and Word Processors. Enclosed is also a sample x-base program for assigning the bar code print field within a data base. For more information contact Terry L. Johnson.

  • is a Postnet True Type Font for Windows. For more information contact TAZ Information Services, Inc..

ID Card Printing Software

  • CR8 for Windows is a small, easy to use, yet powerful program designed for printing plastic cards. It can be used to print both photo-ID's using color card printers such as the Eltron P310*, as well as to high-capacity card printers such as the NBS Image Master* through connection to a database.
